In 2017, Better Breastfeeding has produced a “Guide to the Guidance” on breastfeeding support, aimed at helping Local Maternity Systems (LMSs) design good quality, seamless support for mothers to breastfeed. It contains all the national guidance on breastfeeding support – from NICE, Public Health England, Unicef UK Baby Friendly and others.

Building on this work, we followed up by developing a comprehensive “mapping tool” to enable each LMS to produce a tailored area-wide Infant Feeding Strategy, as recommended in the NHS Long Term Plan guidance and in the new NHS England Equity and Equality guidance.
